New Products : Economically Priced MarSurf® UD 120
Measures Surface and Contour in Single Pass
PROVIDENCE RI, USA – The new MarSurf® UD 120 from Mahr Federal can generate both surface and contour measurements in a single pass. Designed for economy, the system provides high accuracy over a large measuring range in nanometer resolutions. The MarSurf UD 120 includes both automated motorized operation and joystick control, along with a patented magnetic probe mounting feature that not only prevents probe damage, but allows probe changes in seconds and without any additional tools.
The drive unit on the MarSurf UD 120 allows traversing lengths from 0.1 mm to 120 mm with drive speeds between 0.1 and 2 mm/s.
A glass scale in the x-direction allows automatic positioning. The probe's motion is sensed by an optical measuring system based on a rocker-arm principal with the stylus tip on one end and an interferometer on the other.
Probe movement is registered by photo diodes and evaluated electronically.

Applications : UK Power Station Adopts Portable FTIR analyser for Water in Lubricating Oil
Click image to download app note "Oil Condition Monitoring"Perthshire, Scotland & Danbury CT, USA -- A2 Technologies has announced that the Ferrybridge Power Station in West Yorkshire, England, has selected their iPAL portable FTIR analyser for measuring the level of water in the lubricating oil used in the massive turbines at this major power plant.
The level of water in lubricating oil is critical to measure and control since it can accelerate oxidation and affect lubrication performance. For years, chemists have relied on Karl Fischer titrations to measure the level of water in lubricating oil.
A new article entitled "iPAL FTIR Analyser for Moisture Determination in Lubricating Oils - An Advancement over Karl Fisher Titration" by Mr. Richard Wilson, Environmental & Performance Manager at Ferrybridge Power Station outlines a number of reasons why his plant has adopted this new technology.

New Products : Compact, High Performance Ballistic Range Camera
With unique ability to acquire two separate full resolution imagesListening to customer feedback the SIR3 camera is smaller and lighter but maintains the high performance and robustness of its popular predecessor, the SIR2.
Maintaining its commitment to the technological development of its products - Specialised Imaging Ltd. have introduced several useful innovations on the SIR3 camera.
These include the addition of an optical viewfinder to ease image focus and framing whilst still maintaining the possibility of electronic focusing using an external TFT monitor and simplified focus button.

Calibration : Calibration in proton beam therapy dosimetry
Radiation therapy treatments require precise & reliable measured doses
Lund, Sweden -- In an article entitled Implementation of water calorimetry in a 180 MeV scanned pulsed proton beam including an experimental determination of kQ for a Farmer chamber author Joakim Medin (Phys. Med. Biol. 55 3287), reported in Medical PhysicsWeb's News letter at: medicalphysicsweb.org/cws/m/1767/281424/article/journals/42788, said:
Water calorimetry, in which the temperature rise induced by the absorbed dose in water is measured, is an important technique for establishing the absorbed dose under reference conditions. In the present work, water calorimetric measurements have been performed for the first time in a 180 MeV scanned pulsed proton beam and the absorbed dose has been compared with the results obtained using two NE2571 Farmer chambers.
