New Products : ASCO Introduces Composite Solenoid Valve
For Water Purification & Conditioning Uses
FLORHAM PARK NJ, USA -- - ASCO Numatics has introduced the 212 Series of composite solenoid valves that incorporate the new FasNTM universal connection system. The 212 Series has been designed specifically for water purification and conditioning systems in commercial and industrial applications.“With the 212 Series, ASCO has perfected composite valve technology,” said Robert W. Kemple, Jr., executive vice president, sales and marketing - Americas, ASCO Numatics.
“This is the highly reliable, easy-to-install product the market has been waiting for. It solves the breakdown and reliability problems found in other types of composite valves and is available with one of the fastest delivery times in the industry.”
The composite valve has been tested and certified by NSF International: NSF 61 Annex G (drinking water), NSF 169 (special purpose food equipment and devices), and NSF 372 (lead-free).

Applications : Getting reliable & continuous level signal in the steam drum
Endress+Hauser brings you higher plant availability with safer and better measurement possibilities
Reinach/BL, Switzerland -- Water level in the boiler drum is one of the most important parameters to both measure and control. If the level is too low, overheating of the water wall tubes may cause serious accidents, resulting in expensive repairs, downtime, and injury or death to personnel.
If the level is too high, boiler water carryover into the superheater or the turbine may cause damage resulting in extensive maintenance costs or outages of either the turbine or boiler.
Controlling the water level requires sophisticated techniques as the level measurement must be accurate and transmitted to the control system.
Traditional differential pressure (dp) level measurement can be tricky

Vendor : Hyperbolic Optics with Extremely Tight Tolerances
Economically produced hyperbolic optics up to 500 mm diameter
Kenley, UK -- Drawing upon 50 years precision optics manufacturing experience, Optical Surfaces Ltd. has established a worldwide reputation of being able to deal with the extremely tight tolerances and accuracy that hyperbolic optics demand.Hyperboloids are generally used in optical telescope systems where good off-axis performance is an important requirement. Optical Surfaces supplied hyperboloids have been at the heart of many deep space and earth observation satellites including BNSC's Top Sat, the NASA swift explorer as well as ESA's XMM and NigeriaSAT-2.
Benefiting from a uniquely stable manufacturing environment and proprietary production techniques, Optical Surfaces Ltd.'s skilled craftsmen are able to economically produce hyperbolic optics up to 500 mm diameter with typical wavefront error of lambda/20 P-V, surface finish of 10/5 and microroughness less than 1.2 nm RMS.

Publications : Tips On When To Use Radiation Resistant Lenses
Does My Application Really Need Radiation Resistant Lenses?
Chesham, UK -- Resolve Optics Ltd has produced an informative technical note that addresses the question 'Does My Application Require Radiation Resistant Lenses? In nuclear power, nuclear reprocessing, space, medical and other scientific applications optical glass may be exposed to high energy radiation like gamma, electron, proton and neutron radiation.
With the accumulation of higher doses this radiation reduces the transmittance of optical glass (turning brown or grey) especially near the UV-visible edge of the spectrum.
Fortunately optical glasses can be stabilised against transmittance loss caused by ionizing radiation by adding Cerium (Ce) to the composition. The extent of stabilization differs from glass type to glass type.

Applications : Safe & Rapid Biological Sample Concentration
The miVac sample concentrator
Ipswich, UK & Stone Ridge NY, USA -- For laboratories looking for a safe, rapid and affordable sample concentrator for biological samples, Genevac reports on the significant operational benefits of their miVac sample concentrator compared to 'blowdown' evaporation systems. Removing solvent by blowing inert gas into open sample vessels, blowdown evaporators often have to operate at 50 °C or more to concentrate samples in a relatively short space of time. For many laboratories dissolution of samples in low boiling solvents is not always an option.
To efficiently remove water and other higher boiling solvents, vacuum concentration, as used by the miVac sample concentrator, is widely accepted as the only effective method.
