Applications : Modeling heat transfer processes with IR thermography
CROISSY-BEAUBOURG, FRANCE -- The Department of Gas and Diphasic Thermohydraulics at the CEA (Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique) has selected a Cedip Infrared Systems SILVER 480M IR camera system to study thermal transfers in pipes walls under high flow, high pressure and high temperature conditions. In a typical gas cooled reactor the temperature of the fluid lies between 100 with 350°C and the temperature of pipes walls varies between 20 and 800°C.
Thermal transfer phenomena on pipe wall surfaces determine the performance and long-term behaviour of the reactor. In order to design and build more efficient, reliable and safe reactors it is therefore essential to be able to precisely measure pipe wall temperatures.
The SILVER 480M was selected by the CEA as it was an affordable, high performance 3-5 um IR camera offering the sensitivity and high frequency acquisition capabilities demanded by their applications.

Vendor : Sales of DapTechnology’s FireSpy Analyzer Rocket Past 1000 Units
NIJMEGEN, The Netherlands--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DapTechnology, a world-leading supplier of advanced IEEE1394 technology solutions to the aerospace, defense, industrial, automotive and consumer electronics markets have announced that sales of its flagship FireSpy line of analyzers have rocketed past the 1000 unit mark since the company introduced the first FireSpy 400 analyzer. Initially released in 2000 and 2003 respectively, the FireSpy400 and FireSpy800, “Basic Series”, have defined new standards for IEEE1394 data analysis.
Inspired partially by requirements from the aerospace & defense sector, DapTechnology introduced the “Advanced Series” of FireSpy analyzers a few years ago.
Built on top of the proven “Basic Series”, these analyzers boast better performance due to a more powerful on-board processor, bus power provider capability, new connectivity interfaces (USB 2.0 and Ethernet, PCI), enhanced C-like scripting capabilities and more data capture memory. DapTechnology’s FireSpy analyzers come as external standalone units as well as card slot versions which fit the standard PCI Bus found on most host personal computers.

Devices : Trace Visual Function Analyzer
Houston TX, USA -- The Tracey iTrace Visual Function Analyzer measures quality of vision and visual function using a fundamental thin beam principle of optical ray tracing, a first in eye care diagnostics. The iTrace sequentially projects 256 near-infrared laser beams into the eye to measure forward aberrations, processing data point-by-point to determine visual function, multi-zone refraction, and, with integrated EyeSys Vista corneal topography, to determine the aberrations of the internal optics.

New Products : Agilent Technologies Introduces Family of Handheld Digital Multimeters
SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) has announced the expansion of its handheld digital multimeter (DMM) portfolio with the introduction of the Agilent U1240A Series.
Leveraging technical innovations from the multi-award-winning U1250A Series, this new series provides functions that are optimal for installation and maintenance applications.
The new Agilent DMM allows field or facilities technicians and engineers to do more than just voltage, current and resistance measurements. For instance, providing more than typical voltage measurements on switches, the Agilent U1240A Series enables users to observe open/close switch behaviors in the presence of intermittent signals.
Users can also easily gauge the extent of transformer heating or the efficiency of refrigeration systems with the DMM’s dual and differential temperature capabilities. This, coupled with its microamp measurement function, is especially handy for troubleshooting HVAC equipment and sensors.
